Members in good standing of another provincial association may become members of ATIS without having to pass the proficiency and admission exams.
Individuals wishing to join ATIS must first pass the ATIS admission exam. The ATIS admission exam leads to associate member status. It does not lead to CERTIFICATION.
Candidates who pass the Admission exam will have their names listed on our website.
In order to be admitted as associate members of ATIS, candidates will be required to pass two exams. The first is a proficiency exam; the second, a translation exam (the admission exam).Candidates who pass the proficiency exam (pass mark: 70%) will be invited to write the admission examination (translation; pass mark: 70%).

Candidates may use printed reference materials for the translation exam. Computers are not allowed.

Exam fees are as follows, and are payable in full at time of application:
Proficiency exam and information session: $50
Admission exam (for candidates who pass the proficiency exam): $75
Canditates who passed the proficiency exam in the previous year do not need to repeat it. they should send their application for the admission exam, with the $75 fee, by the date indicated.
Successful candidates will be required to fill out the MEMBERSHIP
APPLICATION FORM and pay the membership
fee within a maximum length of time following the exam date.

Associate translators who pass the ATIS Entrance Examination have 5 years (possibility of two one-year extensions) from the date they become associate members to successfully go through the certification process either by writing the National Certification Exam or by the "On Dossier" process.
Associate members who do not obtain certification within the prescribed period must rewrite and pass the ATIS Entrance Examination in order to remain eligible for membership.
