CERTIFICATION PROCEDURES & REQUIREMENTS
ATIS certified translators and interpreters are members by affiliation of CTTIC.
The National Certification Exam, held annually, is administered and adjudicated on a national basis by the Council of Translators, Terminologists and Interpreters of Canada. Application for the National Certification Exam is done through ATIS. Disclaimer
To apply for this examination, associate members must have a degree in translation and one year of experience or, if they do not have a degree in translation, four years of experience.
For official languages (French and English), one year of experience is equivalent to 110,000 (one hundred and ten thousand) words.
For other languages, one year of experience is equivalent to 30,000 (thirty thousand) words.
The CTTIC Certification Examination is held every year in February and an orientation session is held the week prior to the examination date.
ATIO PREPARATORY COURSE FOR CTTIC TRANSLATION EXAMINATION
To meet the needs of those who wish to prepare for CTTIC's national
examination or simply to improve their professional skills, the
Association of Translators and Interpreters of Ontario is offering a
correspondence course covering translation.
Each participant receives four texts of about 175 words each, translates them and returns them to
his/her tutor over a two-month period.
Registration fee: $171.20 (subject to change)

Why is attending a preparatory session important?
Attending a preparatory session will help you know what to expect for the exam. It is a good time to ask questions about marking procedures, what to bring and what not to bring to the exam, as well as what to expect in case of a pass or fail mark. You will be given a practice exam to write in preparation for the actual exam. Candidates will also have the chance to discuss with others writing the same exam.
All you will need to bring is paper, a pen or pencil, and your reference material.
